I bought a set of eze-lap diamond plates from Dieter Schmid Fine Tools. The finer ones have been perfect, but the coarse one showed bubbles in the surface from early on. I believe there is a nickel layer deposited on the steel, with the diamonds embedded in the nickel, and this layer had begun to separate from the steel. By 3 years after purchase, a substantial region had spalled off. I contacted Dieter Schmid, despite being out of warranty, and they sent a replacement by return of post. They had not seen this type of failure before (see photos).
I commend them for the exceptional quality of their service, and shall do business with them whenever possible.
