Hi,
Just bought an extra extra fine 8000 DMT sharpening plate.
I put my Starret square against it and see that it has a slight (crack of light size) hollow in it.
Comparing to my EzeLap plates I see they aren’t 100% either, but they are flatter than the DMT.
My question: I know the plates need to be flat, but how flat?
I’ve got a guaranteed flat piece of marble at home, so I’ll check it on that this evening when I get home from work.
Regards
Darren.
I been using mine for 2 years and just checked
Them.they are not perfectly flat but i haven’t noticed any waves in any of my cutting
Edges I sharpened on them and i use them numerous time a day when I am doing stuff.
I have a course and an extra course and while I was happy with how flat they where but I was not happy with how quickly they stopped cutting. I now use the course plate to polish with.
Putting an edge on a double edged sword might have been to much for them.
I checked the plate on my marble. It’s definitely more hollow than the Eze-Lap plates, but it seems uniform, and the plane I sharpened was significantly sharper than when I previously sharpened it on a 1200 Eze-Lap plate.
I think it’s going to be okay.
Thanks
Darren.
