I had some pine with some clear runs in it. So I cut the lengths in between the knots. The box came out about 11 x 9.5″ with base/lid 3/4″ wider and longer. The overall height is 5.5″.
The lid is hinged in the back.
At this point, it has a couple of thin coats of shellac.
I am working on a couple more.

I really like that. I love the way you’ve allowed the grain pattern to do the talking – particularly the way the base and top echo each other.

David, I used pre mixed Zinsser (Home Depot), thinned a little. It is the clear, not the amber.

Hi john thanks for that I googled Zinsser and certain products do appear to be available in the UK but could not see any Zinsser Shellac

David, Paul refers to a brand of pre mixed shellac that he buys in the UK in the wall clock fine video.
