When planing a drawer to fit, is it best to fit the drawer bottom first or last, or dose it make any difference.

    Cheers 😉

I’ve only built a total of (5) drawers but I’ll try to help. Can you clarify just a bit more?

Will try buddy. Ok you have made your drawer, and now you have to plane it to fit the opening in the carcass. The drawer bottom is fixed into three grooves, no groove in the back, so it can be removed if ever necessary. So do you plane the draw to fit, with or without the bottom fixed in place, or dose it not make any difference.

I hope that makes sense 🙂

OK…now I’m with you. I fully competed all my drawers before trying to fit them to the openings that they go into. A secondary function of the bottom is that it will pull the drawer into square if the drawer is slightly out of square. Much like the back of a cabinet. Hope this helps…again only (5) drawers under my belt…but all do fit and function.

This video shows a Japanese craftsman fitting a drawer, about midway thru the video. Method is universal.
