as well as furniture making i do woodturning and get timber at a sawmill. i rough turn the pieces and let them dry. i got a big lump of burr (or burl) oak about 2 metres long. one end was about 20mm thick and the other was 300mm. after i cut the thick end in half i hand a nice thick natural edge piece and a 120mm thick slab 700mm long and 600mm wide. i want to let it dry for my furniture making which i know will yake years but its getting destroyed by cracks. and because the burr is full of knots they are cracking and popping out. all of my turned pieces are drying fine. its all out in my shed not in a warm house. im in ireland so the weather is not to hot. its not the ends that are cracking its the faces of it. so if anyone has any tips on how to dry it, it would be very much appreciated
