I wish light duty aluminum sash clamps were more common in Australia, sash clamps here are enormous cast iron or steel monstrosities, almost as hard on your wallet as they are on your back.
21 February 2015 at 10:41 am #124884i’m surprised you dont see more of them in australia as they are made a lot closer to you (china) than us (UK) maybe you need to start asking more tools outlets for them the more demand the more likely they are to stock them
21 February 2015 at 2:50 pm #124918It’s a cultural thing here, you can’t buy them from most places, and most shops don’t use them. No idea why they’re so enamored with the big hunking ones, they are awful. Possibly it hasn’t occured to anyone to stick that bit of wood in them. Roofusson, there is a link somewhere on these forums to a place in SA selling them for about $25, very similar to the ones Paul uses. I will see if I can dig them up.
PS: Found the link in a thread called Cheap Clamps in Australia, here it is; http://elraco.com.au/index.php/clamps-bar-clamp-c-1125_1126_1138_1141?osCsid=05db422947c1b2b7b0200cee53096cf5
22 February 2015 at 9:12 am #124953Eddie, I bought 8 x 2 foots from Screwfix and last week reinforced them with a baton in the way Paul has. It’s made a world of difference to the feel of clamping and is definitely worth doing in my opinion.
I purchased them from here: http://www.tool-net.co.uk/p-366950/tool-net-900mm-aluminium-sash-clamp.html
Probably the cheapest on line.
22 February 2015 at 4:11 pm #124958@gareth633 i’ve got 4 x 600mm which i’ve retro fitted as per Pauls instruction and they are a different clamp once fitted with the inserts and pads on the jaws, these six will be getting the same treatment.
[quote quote=124956]These are pretty easy to come by in the US. I can get them for about $5 each. So you got an even better deal. Good find… You can never have to many clamps!

Where in the states can you get them for 5.00? At Harbor Freight they are close to 10.00. -
