Hi Paul and co. I am trying to decide on a vise for my shop. I have researched Eclipse vise’s as well as WIlton 10″ vises. Has anyone used either? The used vice market here is not real good so am looking at new but want to buy quality without spending a fortune either. ANy thoughts are appreciated. Thanks
hi David sorry i can’t help on either of these vice’ mine was an ebay find (a record 52 quick release ) and as it only cost me £10 here un the UK, i think if you you are looking to buy new you have the saftey net of a manufactures guarantee so here in the UK you would have at least twelve months to see how it performs .
Hi Eddy, I am looking at the eclipse due to the fact that they purchased the manufacturing rights from Record and are manufacturing them according to the old record plans. This vise is reported to open 14 1/2″ and is 10″ wide costing $159.00. I feel like it is worth the chance! THis would be my first one thou.
David, I have the 10″ Eclipse vise and have been very pleased with it. I bought it last year from Highland Woodworking.
At first it was a bit sticky with the quick release, but I believe that was because I did not clean off the original packing grease before installing. It did not take long, however, for it to loosen up and it has been working great ever since.
