One appears to be a revonoc 4 1/2. I can’t find much information on this maker at all. Has anyone any insight?
I found this on Fine woodworking message boards.
revonoc was supplied by stanley.
The HSB is Hibbard, Spencer and > Barlett (a large Chicago based hardware firm). Their planes in the
Revonoc line were manufactured by Stanley and Sargent .http://forums.finewoodworking.com/fine-woodworking-knots/hand-tools/rev-o-noc

I think some BLO, shellac and wax would do just fine and would be nice in the hand. I think the original Stanley finish on knobs and totes was shellac.
That plane really cleaned up nice. Have fun using it!
1 January 2016 at 2:05 am #133542Looks much better cleaned up (like most of us!). I’ve used oil, either BLO or Tung oil on plane totes and knobs. Three coats – one coat per day, wiping away the excess after each coat, and let it dry for a few days before using. And like Derek says, you could still add wax or shellac and wax on top of the oil.
All the older planes I’ve used have had a much more durable finish on them. Not sure what it is, but I usually scrape it off and use the oil for a nice soft feel.
