I have completed my first dovetail box. This one is made out of Pine with a Cedar bottom. It is finished with a coat of Platnum shellac. There are a few gaps and imperfections, but my technique is improving.
After completing this I have practiced and learned that for me it is best to keep a 1/16″ away from the knife walls when sawing and chiseling. This allows me to pare down to the final dimensions and remove tear out and saw marks. I am sure that as my technique improves I will be able to creep closer to this line during cutting.
Learning to hand cut dovetails has long been a goal for me. I am very thanksful for Paul’s videos which are a wonderful resource.
Thank you for the encouragement, I have continued to practice cutting dovetails and find it very relaxing.
