I was wondering if anyone has an idea of how I can fix / minimise the appearance of the damaged edge of this cross grain rebate. See attached image.
I making some frame and panel doors, three of which went ok but this one… not so much!
Nothing’s glued-up yet but making a new panel is not an option so I need to do the best I can with this one. Perhaps glue /sawdust?

I would put it together and finish the project. At the final sanding I would evaluate and fill then if needed. I would use a store bought filler that hardens and close to the finish color and only where extremely necessary. It was built by hand small imperfections can add to a project like that depending on your mindset. To put my advice in perspective I am kinda new at this. That is what I would do though.
Hi Ron – thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. You’re right about the small imperfections adding to the handmade feel – and I’m sure there will be no doubt in anyone’s mind that it was handmade when it’s all done!
I think I agree that probably sanding/scraping to soften the edges of the breakout will be enough – trying to disguise it will probably just look and feel phoney.
Cheers
