Hi Whitney, sadly lumber is difficult in this area. I live in College Park and used to own a truck. God do I miss that thing :(. I would think nothing of heading up to Hearned hardwoods in Pennsylvania and just pick up what I needed. Exotic Lumber in Gathersburh is ok but can be pricey (and I do not know about shipping or finish planing from them as I buy it rough and plane it down myself. ). I have not needed large quantities for a while as I stocked up on a load of Cherry before I sold the truck. But the nest time I do I think a few of us MD/DC/VA people should pool together and make a road trip out of it.
Since I am in the area if you want to get it rough I have a planer you can use to plane it down. I know we are hand tools only on this site for the most part (Hey Paul has been wheeling that bandsaw out). so if a planer saves money why not….John
Ooops 10,000 humble apologies for mentioning machines! I will confess to being a newby to woodworking and my first ever job was to make 1200 linear meters of ash bead and butt T&G hence the requirement for at least some machines, however the reason i’m visiting here is that i wish to become much more proficient with my hand tools, i’m developing a L-N habit that is proving hard to kick so i may as well learn how to use them properly!
