i’ve been hunting for a 37mm #7 gouge but i think every man and his dog must be following Pauls advice on which gouge to get , my son was buying it for me as a gift for christmas if anyone knows of any out there (UK prefared due to delivery) i’ve tried all the usual outlets but any suggestions would help.
11 December 2013 at 8:56 pm #23656hi all do any of our German members have the names of any tool companies that stock hirsch gouge’i cant find them on any listings thanks in advance for any help
Hi Eddy,
now that’s interesting, since I tried to find out whether I can get Hirsch gouges here in Germany a few days ago, only to discover that I cannot even find a company website and a few pieces on ebay. The only source I see is highlandwoodworking and that’s to much of a hassle for me.
Maybe someone else can aid us in this quest.

11 December 2013 at 10:05 pm #23669One place worth trying is the Old Tool Store. They don’t list stock on their website, so give them a call tomorrow. They might have one by Ray Iles, or some other make, or may be able to let you know where else to try.
Good luck!
George.
I’ve been on this fruitless hunt too. In the end I have just ordered the Stubai equivalent from Dieter Schmidt’s Fine Tools http://www.fine-tools.com/bildhau1.htm. UK postage is 9 euros. Stubai seem to have a good reputation but I would like to have bought British – the Ashley Iles perhaps. However as you know this gouge has been out of stock there for a while. I’ll let you know how it goes.
11 December 2013 at 10:21 pm #23672Hi Eddy… I visited the Tool Post back in June and was impressed by there selection of tools. They have some carving gouges in there online store, one being 37mm. If it’s not what you need, Give them a call because their shop is very well stocked.
Failing that, have a look here
12 December 2013 at 6:13 am #23696Have you guys tried looking for Two Cherries gouges? It is my understanding that they are the same gouges as the Hirsch, made by the same company.
