Hi Guys
I have now completed the pencil box with exception finger indent, I do not have any gouges?
What size of gouges are the most useful. This is the first project I have made that has needed one.

Thanks for that I guess to finish off my pencil box I will have to invest in a gouge I think for now just the one size
The gouge Paul used in his DVD, is that also a #7 sweep? I really need one for general work, but I don’t know which.
Numbers 5,6,or 7 will work for this. 5 is a handy side I like. A 3/4″ wide is wide enough but a 1″ is good for larger carvings we will need on projects down the road.
Here is a link for the Faithfull brand of chisel sold here in the UK. I have used them and they take and keep a good edge. Price is right at under £6. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Faithfull-Straight-Gouge-Carving-Chisel-25-4mm-1in-/290764394668?pt=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item43b2e890ac&_uhb=1
I also did a blog on these: http://paulsellers.com/2011/04/faithfull-gouges/
Thanks for the info. Is a number 7 (1 inch) also convenient for projects like spoons?
Hi Paul
Thanks for that I will get an order placed so I can complete my pencil box
Hi Guys
I have just been on to my-tool-shed.co.uk and placed an order for three gouges 1″ , 5/8″ and 3/8″ and a spoon gouge all at £2.79 each I hope they are the same chisels Paul had ? at that price I cant wait to see what they are like . How can any body make a chisel that can sell for £2.79
Paul,
Can you suggest a budget-friendly gouge for your US students? A quick google search yields no US sellers for the Faithfull gouges.
