Paul wrote in his blog last year: “Another point, Joel of Gramercy fame, (www.toolsforworkingwood.com) has produced the finest bench hold fast I have ever used. I wish I could get them here in the UK.”

Well not quite here in the UK, but I did recently manage to buy 2 of the Gramercy Holdfasts from Dieter Schmid’s site: http://www.fine-tools.com/holdfast.html.

They were 40 Euros the pair, plus 12 Euros for UPS 3 day delivery to UK, so under £50, all-in. He is also good value on Eze-Lap diamond stones. No, I’m not on a back-hander, I buy virtually all my tools vintage on eBay.

The holdfasts are a great option for anything my Record 53 1/2 vice can’t handle…

Nice one Martin, I get quiet a bit of kit from them. I think they are a real good company to deal with.

The Gramercy Holdfasts are great holdfasts and glad you were able to find them in the UK. One tip I would like to share is rough up the shaft with sandpaper which will add much better holding power in the holdfast holes.

Also worth ringing Ray at http://www.oldtoolstore.com/. The website is a bit rubbish but if you give them a call they’re really helpful. They stock Gramercy stuff and might have the holdfasts.
