My brother had to remove a pecan tree from his yard in Houston a few months ago and I asked him to try and keep some of the logs to mill. Three logs varying from 12-15 inches in diameter and about 4 feet in length were kept and the ends sealed. This week I am at his ranch in Oklahoma and we found a fellow here who has a log milling machine he uses to make his own lumber for a carpentry business. Yesterday he milled the logs for me and I have stickered them in his enclosed and protected barn and intend to air dry them for about 18 months. I will monitor the moisture content and see where they go. I think I have 50-60 bd ft of this pecan and am looking for ideas for projects after the drying time. I have enclosed some pics.
Those look like a lot of nice boards. I’m thinking bookmatched tabletops…
Seems great to be able to fell a tree and make something nice out of it. Where I live each felled tree MUST be cut into firelogs. No matter the type of wood or the straightness. Whish I had the time and space to saw and dry logs.

yes, i was thinking the same thing about the book matched boards. I have a good band saw for that and from initial cuts these pieces have some beautiful heartwood. Each piece was also clear of knots and rot. I also noticed a few pieces with a little spalting.
