Hi
2 weeks ago I won my 1st ebay.co.uk No4 Record Hand Plane
It’s not the old ones but for 6.5£ I’ll have my chances.
While I was cleaning and getting ready I notice something under the varnish
“KING HENRY VIII ?O” (look the pictures)
Does anyone have a clue on what is it?
Guessing it was probably a mark of a previous owner – King Henry VIII Grammar School?
Tried to post this before but it didn’t work – trying again….
Looks like it was made around 1959 (see here for dating Record planes: http://www.recordhandplanes.com/dating.html)
A Google search shows two schools with that name – one in Coventry and the other in Abergavenny
Thanks Gooner!
I saw that too yesterday.
I also discovered with this help

that this plane is a litle “frankenstein”.
The handles don´t mach to each other
The rear one don’t fit properly
The blade is Stanley
But it works great and makes fluffy shavings
