Hello forum,
Please could you help. For a project I have cut two 14cm square holes to house two glass panels (fused artwork) I cut the holes with knife-walls and chisel, like a big mortice hole.
How can I clean up the insides of the square holes? A chisel is starting to split the panels( 8cm reclaimed mahogany)
Any tips appreciated.
Thanks,
Mark
To clean up the bottoms of the mortises is probably best done with a router plane, which will give you an even surface. I don’t understand why your chisel is splitting the wood, (or even how it’s possible, esp if your wood is 8 cm thick, that’s some beefy mahogany), but a router plane is essentially a chisel mounted in a jig, so be careful.
