I’ve had a go at making a cain I use old rasp and files for twist.
I definitely need set of rasps. Took a fair bit of time to do twist and I also kept refining handle.
The wood I used is Iroko for handle and Ash for cain. I have put a couple of coats of thinned shellac as a sanding sealer and so far I have got two coats of button polish shellac which is close to amber shellac in colour.
I will probably put another coat of button polish on then buff up with furniture polish.

I finished my first cane also yesterday. It’s oak finished with shellac and wax (still waiting for the rubber foot). I like the look of the end-grain.

    Very Nice job David 😉
I picked the most figured piece of grain I had on the Iroko made it more of a challenge to shape grain going all directions.
    All finished now 🙂
