Hi folks,
It’s been a particularly dry couple of weeks here and I’d been building my workbench (the Paul Sellers youtube design) outside. Weather report had chances of showers down to 20% last night, so I didn’t put a tarp over my progress. Whoops. It got maybe an hour or two of drizzle before I woke up and covered it.
I’m trying to understand how bad this is and how I can limit the damage. Is there anything I can do? I already had the table top sections (8 2x4s) laminated and a couple of aprons (3 2x4s laminated horizontally). I also had a couple of 2x4s sitting out that I was going to edge joint.
It might not be bad at all – you never know. If you’re worried about the apron warping or twisting, you could clamp it to the underside (hopefully dry) of the laminated benchtop and let it sit for a few days. If there is a dry side to the apron, make sure the dry side goes to the dry underside of the top.
As far as the top is concerned, I’d just let it dry out. If you need to cover it, make sure there is space for air to circulate under the cover. And you can just hope the other 2×4’s don’t go curly on you. Good luck.
