picked up this at a car boot sale,it says on handle “PYTHON PATENTED SIZE 1” my thinking is it has something to do with shoeing horses or ponies.but used it today to turn back up an edge on a card scraper to i had folded over to far on purpose. and it worked a treat. just wondering if anybody has seen one before?
Yes, indeed it is and it is a very useful burnisher for burnishing the edge of a No80 cabinet scraper and any straight or shaped card scraper. It’s hardened steel and I use this type over any other. The angle on the bend is commensurate for turning the edge at the correct angle so when you pull the burnisher along the edge of the plate to burnish and or consolidate, you pull the bend into the plte and this effectively rolls the edge into the cutting edge we w=very wrongly call the burr. These are so effective I redesigned mine and made one from O1. It’s the best thing since sliced bread.
nice one eddy, my first thought was turning an edge till the man that sold it to me give me a story about shoeing ponies lol.
The handle is an after-market or user applied, I’m guessing; they are still made and sold today, its a Python safety file handle, made from beech.
