    Hi All

I’m wondering if anyone can help.
I am an aircraft engineer by trade but recently taken up woodworking to help renovate our family home. I looking for a little help with my kitchen cabinets designs. We like a traditional look and have chosen to opt for a face frame style cabinet. I have watched a lot of the video and found the bedding box and tool cabinet super helpful.

What I am unsure is, how to attach the face frame to the cabinet using traditional joinery?

When I research other videos on the web, every seems to use dominos or pocket screws.

    Can you offer any advice.

    Thanks again

    Mike

Have you looked at Shaker furniture? They are a great source of insight. I have many books on the subject. One of the best is “The Book of Shaker Furniture” by John Kassay, which is available new and used online. Another great source is The online catalogue of the Mount Lebanon Shaker Museum: https://shakerml.org

This can be done with glue alone as this is a long grain to grain conection, which is very strong. This will work fine with plywood casings as half your plys are long grain. Just glue and clamp. I have seen dowels used, but, that mainly helps with alignment. By far the most common method is glue and nail. The nails are used to avoid clamping and are hidden with putty..

    Thanks Both

This is extremely helpful. The history of shaker style furniture is very interesting. I had no idea this was the story behind the style. It’s greatly appreciated

How long does glue last before it starts to perish? I was considering investing in a Festool domino cutter using domino’s for the mechanical strength.but doesn’t exactly keep to tradition for this style.

    Thanks again
