Does anyone know if this product has an expiry date or a shelf life? I’ve got some but it’s a few years old and was wondering if it’s still good to glue up my bench top with. I used it to build my canoe a number of years ago and since I had a 3L container, there’s a bit left. I’ve used it for small repairs around the house but nothing like laminating a bench top and I’d hate for it to come apart if I start hammering on the bench.
Thanks,
Daniel
Daniel,
The cost of the glue is probably the smallest cost of building your bench, well down from the cost of purchasing the timber and your labour. Use the glue up on other low stress boxes or less critical projects where the joinery itself will hold the project together.
Yellow glue and most forms of PVA are usually about 12 months recommended shelf life, depending upon the temperature at which it is stored. Having said that, I have old PVA glue that has still done the job many years after it was purchased. But on the workbench I would always use fresh glue! Ditto for a boat!!! 🙂

I went to the hardware store to pick up something I had ordered last week and came to the same conclusion on my drive there. Got a new bottle. It’s smaller but has a pouring spout. Legs are laminated up. Tomorrow I’ll square them and hopefully start chopping mortises and cutting tenons. I’ll glue up the bench top first though. Building a bench without a bench is harder than one would think. Just lining everything up to glue is a PITA.
