Hi all,
Lidl are doing a wood carving set for 25 Euro this week here in Ireland.
I’m thinking for the price they might be worth a shot as it would be a new avenue and the price it right. But just wondering if anyone has anyone any experience with them, and would I just be better off spending the money on a single gouge
Cheers.
Graham
17 August 2016 at 12:29 pm #139407Thanks for the heads-up. I see that they also sell them here in Belgium.
For € 25 you can’t really go wrong so I might buy some after having a look at them in the store.18 August 2016 at 4:25 pm #139469I bought the set today and already returned it. Not one of the tools was remotely sharp.
One even had an half millimetre edge…
The box was nicer than the chisels but the finish came off.So I would not recommend buying this set.

I wouldn’t really expect them to be sharp, but if the edges are malformed that badly I’d return them too.
I might risk it and see if it’s just sharpening that’s needed on the set I get.
18 August 2016 at 11:14 pm #139490I bought a set today. I have to agree on the sharpness issue; straight out of the box they are as blunt as they can be.
I haven’t had a chance to try a proper sharpening on them yet but a few minutes work on one of the gouges got it relatively sharp enough to start taking some shavings off a scrap of wood.
