I have been doodling on paper for a while now, trying to decide on a mark I might place on my projects. The idea came about back in June when I visited the “Tool Post” Woodturning Exhibition over in Didcot. I watched Irish wood Turner Robert O’Connor turn a bowl from scratch to finished item in about an hour. I asked him if he used a makers mark “Of course” he said. Then he turned 2 of the finest concentric circles on the base of the bowl. “That’s it” he said as he handed me the bowl for inspection.
It was dead simple, unrushed and you could feel his sense of pride as he delicately etched and sanded his mark to perfection.
So the question is… do any forum members mark their projects?
It would be nice to see some of your “Makers Mark” if you do. Just for the record that is.
You never know, 50 years from now (if I’m still breathing) someone could show me a piece of furniture at a Jumble Sale or Auction Room, and when I inspect it is see a mark I recognise, and I can proudly say “I now who made that”
I wish that what I know now, I knew when I was younger.

2 December 2013 at 4:54 pm #22813Thanks David. It took me a while sketching on paper to come up with something I liked. For some reason signing my name to my work just didn’t feel or look right to me. I like my little logo though. Now when I give someone a piece that I made they actually look it over to find the logo. I don’t think they would have looked for my signature.
A little tip. Make sure to try it on wood with the tools you are going to use. You don’t want to spend an hour just to add a logo to a piece.
Hope you find a design that works for you. When you do, post a photo.http://hillbillydaiku.com
