This is going to be my first major project and I want to use this as a jumping off point for more furniture making projects for my home. My question is if I want to make a bench as close to Paul’s as possible what is the most efficient size and quantity of hardware store lumber to purchase? I already have some 2×4 SYP (south east USA), and I planned on using those laminated together for the top itself. The aprons, legs, and well are the pieces I am most concern Ed with getting right.
I followed PS’s design very closely. Only modification was an 8-ft bench with a third leg placed slightly off center. I chose 8-ft because I had the space, otherwise would have followed Paul’s cut list. For lumber I used box store 2×4, 2×6, and 4×4 legs. It turned out great. Total cost was $150 plus the vice. It’s a wonderful project. I suggest, “don’t overthink the planning on this one.” Enjoy the build!
