hello everyone,
this isnt a flush/proud question i think that is down to personal prefernce and im a proud kind of guy 😉
my question relates to the fixing of the vice, i picked up a woden 168b 10 1/2″ vice at a very good price but i am concerned that coach bolting it from the underside may not be enough as this thing weighs 60 lb. am i just fussing ?
many thanks
karl.
In addition to the bolts from the underside, you will have the screws that come from the Face, into the side of your apron, or side of your top, depending…
Underneath that wooden face plate, there are other holes drilled. You will run screws through those holes, and then re-attach the face plate.
And it’s not the weight of the Vise that should be your concern, but if you intend to chop while holding in your vise… That is the real deal. But this vise can handle it, as it did for many years before you have acquired it.
Karl,
dovetails pointed it out already and you mention an old mounting guide. Additionally these instructions by Paul might be helpful espicially with all the photos: How to Build a Workbench – Fitting the Vise
Congratulations for the vise by the way!
