I believe I was being too agressive with chopping. Here’s wahat I was getting so I backed off notch or two and the rest came out smooth. I also figured out I was not getting my chisle perpendicular to my surface. So, I’m off and running agsin. Was today a productive day? I think so!

I finally got some warm weather and made some good progress on my tool box. Now I’ll have to go back and find the video on making the halfblind dovetails for the drawers. I’m having a ball with it now!

Thank you Greg. I’ve had to fix a lot of things but I’m pretty proud of it. I ordered a cabinet scraper and it should be here Monday. It’s got some ruff spots on the front and i’ll smooth it out then. I may give that polisher a try too. 🙂

Thank you all for the comments. The drawers will be next and then the real fun starts! I get to fill it with tools! I may have auction my old tools box off so I can buy more tools. My wife is not going to be happy. 🙂

19 April 2014 at 8:02 pm #56271Great looking tool chest Sandy, enjoy making the hold blind dovetails , from my very limited experience they are ok to make but I found them to be quite a slow process.
Wigan, Lancs. England :
David, I am so slow chopping dovetail joints that I probably won’t notice the difference in time. I chose to put two drawers side by side on mine so there will be more tails to deal with on each drawer so it will take a bit longer to cut and to fit. But I am looking forward to getting out there today…

I am amazed how well people are doing with these large sets of dovetails.
Something I still struggle with.Dagenham, Essex, England
Sandy, I can’t believe I’ve only just found this build. That’s a really great tool chest you’ve got underway there. I hope you’re having as fun fun with it as I am with my cabinet. I was hoping to start my tool chest soon but my wife has called in a few promises I made about furniture she wants built. I shall follow this build with great interest. Thanks for sharing.
Keep Calm and have a Cup of Tea
I hacked out all the half blind Dovetails and it looks like a half blind person with a machete did it…. But I think I can fix it.. 🙂
Pictures later.. I’m to tired to take any now. But I’m a happy, tired, half blind person!
