Hi
I finally made it!
It was so fun and such an experience. It took me about 40 hours total, working either a couple of hours in the evening or in spare weekend hours. I bought the wood thinking of another bench design (a Roubo) so I had to convert and laminate the pieces to realize Paul’s design. Which I think it’s great!
I think now it would take me half the time if I had to build another one, as I know what to do.
This is made of construction grade spruce, loads of knots! 🙂
Tools I used, that I bought in the course of the past 3 years while I was starting my woodworking hobby:
– Stanley #4 and Record #5 1/2 planes
– Record rebate plane
– Record plow plane
– Set of Lidl chisels
– Hammer
– Cheap rip and crosscut saws
– Stanley 12″ combination square
– Stanley marking knife
– Veritas double marking gauge
– Cheap pine trestles
– Six cheap sash clampsVise is an Eclipse 10″ with wuick release mechanism.
I am now adding a drawer, will post the finished work soon.
Cheers

I’ll see about a drawer in the apron like his at a later time. I like how he has his saws hung on the front of it as well but since I have no tenon saws to hang there, I can wait on those hangers as well. You’ve got a neat tidy looking corner to work on. Have fun with your projects.
Daniel7 July 2018 at 12:20 pm #549174I am planning to add a second drawer between the vise and the right leg, like the one Paul has. I added the small one first as it was easier to add without putting the bench upside down like I imagine I’ll need to do for the other drawer.
I have a saw hanger as well, it’s very useful not only for tenon saws but also for panel or rip saws. I went for a folding IKEA towel hook, as sometimes I need to plane long boards and this sits less than flush of the vise jaw when folded closed, so it’s not in the middle. Works good so far.
