Right now I use a 20 pound cylinder of propane and a small forced air salamander type heater to heat my small shop. I have discovered that some of the old tools I have that I spent a great deal of time cleaning and sharpening are now getting rusty due to large amount of water vapor released when burning propane. There is no ventilation other than opening a window or the door. The idea in a cold place like Vermont is to keep the space you’re trying to keep warm buttoned up as tight as possible. I’m going to have to be dilligent in keeping all of the exposed metal surfaces in the shop coated with a light film of oil. I have the 3-in-1 oil soaked rag in a can that Paul has mentioned. Everything metal now gets a swipe or two with the can once I’m done using it.
