Hi all,
I picked up a Record 52 1/2 “Made in England on EBay a while back. I fitted it with 3/4″ Baltic Birch liners. The mechanics work fine but the when the front jaw comes into contact with the left of the rear jaw, the right edge has a .030” gap. If I slip a credit card in, the jaws are aligned and parallel.
Is there a better way to bring the jaws into alignment?
Thank you,
Frank
Its a vice.
My vice an original Record 52 D has a little variance you just have to synch up a bit tighter or alter your timber on jaw to compensate.
Wish I could help but I don’t use a vise I use a batten and clamp. Go to English wood worker he has a nice vid on it… as for your vise if you don’t get a ans here, go to Wood Central. Com,
Message board take hand tools. Post a note, they Will try to help you.
Thanks for all of the suggestions. I removed the vise and nothing looked amiss, so I decided to increase the size of the apron recess around the quick release mechanism. I really couldn’t see anything binding, but what the heck. Imagine my surprise when I re-installed the vise and the jaws are now parallel. I would feel better had I determined the root cause of the problem, but for now I’ll take the improvement. This is probably one of those things where the reason will jump up and surprise me later. Take care all.
