Rip cutting the last part

thats a good method it holds the work and allows you to work at your angle of cut,,
it also keeps the saw off the rails in the bottom of the vise .
when the saw binds wedge the start of the cut with anything to keep the kerf open ,a stick ,screwdriver or anything that won’t get hurt if it falls out and lands on the floor,
Could you get a piece of scrap to fit the top of your ‘saw horse’ (It might stop you drinking it 🙂 ) Then when your getting to the end of the board you can overhang the board off the crate sideways i.e. you keep sawing alongside the crate with it half on half off the crate, hopefully you will have enough room to get a knee or a hand on the wood and continue the cut.
