George, I believe the router comes with a 1/2 inch square blade, a 1/2 inch V blade and the sharpening jig. The jig is only useful for the 1/2 inch blades because the blade section can be unscrewed from the leg. Why veritas did this is beyond me because you can free hand the blade assembly just the same way you would free hand the 1/8 and 1/4 inch blades. I never use the jig but it’s included with the router so it just takes up storage space…
To reduce shipping costs you might as well get the 1/8 and 1/4 inch with the fence. The 1/4 inch paired with the fence is very useful for doing stopped grooves for box bottoms and the like.
Yeah, you’re right, Dave. The jig is included. But, no matter, it’ll find a place in my collection of stones.
I mostly use 1/8″ stock for my bottoms. Most of my boxes are under 9.5″ x 6″ (I love using the PHI Ratio in my designs), so that thickness works pretty well. Plus, I use pallet wood for almost all of my projects, and sometimes I have to plane it that thin to get all the irregularities out.
Thanks again for all your comments. I really appreciate it. 🙂
