My first leg is mortised and the table is on it’s way! Yeah!

Mortises look neat Sandy. Did you use a chisel guide?
I still chop free hand I suppose what I am use to.

Oh yeah I used the Crutch. I tried one freehand and there is no way I could have fitted a Tenon to it. But I did it by hand! 🙂

Your off to a good start Sandy. I use the guide all the time too. I would rather be sure that I’m dead square. I don’t use it on through mortises though. Those I chop free hand, check and correct if need be.

The guide is a good idea. Perhaps I am confidant enough to do without guide or maybe just a little lazy.

Mark, I’m just a little more comfortable with the guide for now. It’s easy to fix he ends of the mortice if it’s off a bit but the other way can be difficult.

Not much done in the table today. My wife says I have some other projects that need to be finished…. :-(. But we gotta keep mama happy.

I don’t get on this forum often anymore. But to complete this post, I did finish it. It turned out very nice. My wife loves it and would not take anything for it.

Thank you Mike. Thats one of the few peices I’ve made that didn’t turn into a gift. I love making furniture for my house. But I am on the simpler side and this table is simple yet very pretty.

Finally got my sofa table done. Very challenging. Red oak with shellac finish.

That looks great. I see you didn’t do the lower shelf. I made one but didn’t like the way it looked. I may play around with a different style shelf later but for now, it sits behind the couch and we love it.
