Watch how Seattle’s largest elm tree was carefully cut down piece by piece in an urban area. I don’t know why it was removed from this neighborhood.

I found that the tree was salvaged for Urban Hardwoods, more on Seatle’s Elmtree can be viewed on their website.
27 October 2015 at 5:16 pm #131790I always hate when I see one of these going down around here 🙁 Sometimes it can’t be helped – I would bet that tree was marked as “too big” for the surrounding area. We can get very strong wind storms, and broad trees like that can be prone to fall.
I mean, I understand why it has to come down. Just last month I had the top 20 feet of a 80+ foot evergreen tree come down behind my house.Lucky for me it fell away from my house. (3 people died from a tree falling in that same wind storm)
At least the tree will go towards something good instead of just mulch and playground chips.

(and I will continue salvaging wood from cut local trees as we speak) 😉
8 November 2015 at 12:47 am #132128I know there will be some very appreciative woodworkers in Seattle. I’m having trouble finding Elm in San Francisco… maybe they’ll ship some down south.

Too bad it is in a protected wild area; else I would log it
