If you reconfigure your board to ramped at 5deg you will use more of your blade and it will also create a skewing action giving you slightly better results. They discovered this back in the 18th century. Any low angle or BD will work fine but some end grain is diffcult to shoot. Moistening the end grain will certainly help. I have to add ever since I purchased a dedicated shooting plane from LV I’ve never had to moisten the end grain and the reason behind this is the track. When you push the end grain against the plane the track wall stops the plane from retracting from the plane plus the handle makes planing so much easier. Spending $500 wasn’t easy but the ease of planing end grain helps you quickly forget the price
