Spent a few minutes honing and really tuning one of my Stanley 4s today. Shavings of less than a thousandth. The shimmer of the surface you get when your plane is doing that cannot be replicated any other way. 600 grit sand paper will dull the surface.. I have been watching Paul for two months now. He has convinced me. The pre war Stanley 4 is the best plane ever made. You can buy some that are a lot prettier, but I do not believe you can find a better tool for a person who uses a plane all day.
