I have pushed wood through tools off and on most of my adult life. I just recently discovered using tools to work wood. I am really appreciating the latter. So much more rewarding.
However I seem to have disturbed a presence in my very soul. I can no longer just drive by a yard/garage/barn sale or flea market without stopping. Antique stores have the same grip. This leads to searching for vintage hand tools. If none are to be found, I talk to the proprietor. This has led to a wealth of new to me tools on occasion.
my wife would say too many hand planes already 😉
Just this past week I had the fortune to walk into a store that was actually closed 15 minutes prior to my arrival. A quick walk through led me to a wooden toolbox that was full of tools. A young man had sold his great/great grandfathers tools according to the store owner. I have not done a complete search on the items yet, but have enough information to make a guess as to the mans trade. I would guess he worked on roofs, and maybe siding or lathe walls. I have not decided if I will clean them up or just leave them as I got them.

Personally, I don’t see the point of buying stuff that I won’t use – I’m a user, not a collector. Looks like there are quite a few potentially useable tools there. Some plane handles need fixing I noticed. And lots of other stuff that I hope is in good enough condition to be put to use and given new life.
Congratulations on the find.
