I am working on my 3rd cane. Using a Stanley 151 spoke shave for rounding the edges. I have a problem with the shavings clogging the mouth and preventing the shave from cutting. I am using white oak for the cane. Any suggestions on anything I can do to prevent this.
You could try a shallower cut and longer strokes. Spokeshaves clog pretty easily, it’s just their nature. Watch the videos where Paul uses a spokeshave and take note of how often he clears out the throat. You could also set one side of the blade shallower than the other. This may allow the shavings to escape better as well.
