Im finishing some cherry with BLO. I have applied it to several pieces and have applies at least 2 coats. On the piece that is intended to be the inside bottom of the box I applied a 3rd coat. This piece now has a sticky feeling. I have allowed several days drying time. I actually wiped it down with new BLO and then wiped it as dry as I could hoping to remove any excess.I have resorted to a hair dryer and still it has a tacky feeling. The other pieces are dry and very rich looking. All the wood came from the same board. Any suggestions?
How long did you give it between coats? Did you assiduously wipe off the excess between coats? I don’t use BLO much but it sounds to me like one or both of not enough drying time between coats and excessive amounts left on the surface.
Perhaps scrape off the worst of it and stick on a coat of shellac, that stuff sticks to anything. Of course once you’ve done that you seal the oil off from the air and it’ll never cure, and who knows how it would look. Still, it won’t be tacky any more.
An internet search will likely give you plenty of other suggestions.
James Krenov warns against using oil inside drawers and cupboards, apparently it gives the air trapped inside an unpleasant smell and can go rancid.

Oil finishes, you have to wipe off the excess. That’s why its sticky. Maybe remove it with a card scraper.
