I was practicing squaring up stock today and I found that I got It square for the most part but at the end of my stock it started to dip down I’m using a number 4 smoothing plan what may I be doing wrong is there a technique that I can use to stop from having This drop at the end of my stock?
You need to vary the pressure on the totes (handles). More pressure on front at beginning, then even pressure in the middle of the stroke. As you near the end of your stroke lighten the pressure on the front and increase pressure on the rear. Practice it for a while and it will become automatic.
Do as Greg Says a little practise and you will get it. Also look at this post by Ken.
Basically concave better than convex
It helped me a lot when I realized you want to plane as if you wanted to get the surface hollow in the middle – put most downward pressure in the middle of the stroke, with low to no pressure in the start and the end.
