I have just watched this guy thicknessing a board by hand, he did it the usual way, one face trued then he scribed his line for the thickness.
What he did next was different, well for me it was. He chamfered all four edges down to his scribe line, saying when the chamfer’s disappear he is at his thickness.
I think I will give this a try 😉
Interesting Ken,currently I building tool chest, all lumber from rough sawn, all dimensioned by hand tools only, well… it’s long, but I’m enjoyed))).The best what work fro me: pencil 4B, very soft don’t mark the wood deeply, and straightedge. The more you practice the faster you are, what I learned don’t prepare all wood in once for big project. It will move fast,I have to split all preparation of wood on segments: wood for main box, wood for lids, wood for drawers.Even with rough sawn lumber and acclimatization time, after you dimensioned, wood moving. But all thicknessing by hand fun at least with soft wood.Have fun)
Ken …….. That seems to be a great tip and makes sense, I will give it a go and see what happens.
Thanks for sharing !
