Hi,
I am happily using the record-style vise made by York. I have got one permanent issue which is more of a comfort thing.
If I am firmly tightening the two screws that connect the front jaw to the travelling rods, the vise hardly travels at all. So I have to keep them pretty loose to have comfortable mobility.
The only problem is, that a loose screw tends to get looser over time which means I have to frequently retighten the screws. It’s a 20-second-job but I wonder if the original records behave comparingly?
Probably locktite would help, but I have no futher use for it and it’ very expensive, plus it makes cleaning the vise more difficult.
Writing this took as much time as tightening the two screws for twenty years 😉
Same story with my vise.
As you mentioned PTFE tape – maybe “teflon” tape used for wrapping plumbing pipe threads could be used as well? It is cheap and widely available.
I’ll try that with my vise and report back.
