Hello everyone.
I just fitted the bottom of top of the tool chest and the depth is not enough to house my planes. I would like to add about 2″ to the lid or the box. I don’t have any idea on how to fix this issue. Any suggestions would be great.
Thank you
Jamie
This is why I modified the design to a single drawer, to make the top deeper. Not sure of an astheticly pleasing way to deepen it, but have you thought about storing your planes with the irons removed, so that they aren’t as tall?
Yea I had the same problem, plus I use wooden planes that are taller. Maybe put them on their side. It hasn’t worked out real well for me. I need to use it for something else.

Thank you for your input. I decided to make a 1 7/8 strip and dovetail it together then glue it to the top. Once dried I will plane it smooth. It is a tool box so the seams won’t bother me much. Here are some photos of what I did. Thanks again
