While on holiday in France I came across this tool museum. There are lots of carpentry and joinery tools, some are 16th century. Well worth visiting! The audio guide also very good.
Two things stood out for me. Many planes were decorated by their owners, and some had a 6 spoke wheel carved into them, and the audio guide said it was a “symbol of knowledge”, if I remember correctly. I’ve never seen this before.
There was also an saw with the handle above the blade, which the audio guide described as “a housing saw”, which I guess meaning a housing dado.
I should have taken better pictures, they all came out blurry. 🙁
