Hi all
I just finished fettling my recently acquired planes including a no 6, two no 4 and a 4 1/2.
Been flattening the soles of the 4 and its bigger brother. These are type 19 Stanley’s that were pretty much Nos. You could tell they hadn’t been used a lot. Most of the factory grind marks were still there. The frogs were flattened as well and I already had done the flattening and reestablishing the bevels.
The other no 4 I turned into a scrub plane. I used an angle grinder to create the arced iron. I definitely overshot the curve (boy that grinder turns fast) but I figured I can get a bigger radius by sharpening my iron pretty much like you sharpen a regular iron.
Obviously after all the metal work I had to do some test runs on some pine and oak. Smoothed and foursquared those quite swiftly (I am finally getting the hang of this) but then I got bright and thought it would be a good exercise to plane some pine from about 15 mm to 10 mm width… (ā to 3/8 (?))
So the newly scrub came into action. Boy does that thing hog off some thick shavings! Needless to say I overshot my desired width without realizing… oh well I’m not gonna do anything with those scraps. All in all a pretty productive day although the most significant other would definitely disagree and probably coin a phrase which includes the word fool and something with circles.
Now my tool collection is almost finished, I’m still on the lookout for a no 80 scraper, perhaps a larger brass backed tenon saw and – only recently – a 1/8″ chisel.
Oh well my next projects will have to be the creation of a descent workspace, then some proper clamps to then finally progress to building a workbench.
Plans, plans, plans…

Not really, just been gathering descent tools to be able to do anything I need to when I can start tackling the WWMC project list.
The misses still thinks I should have stopped already way earlier though.
Still I find all my tools would fit in the Paul Sellers Toolchest, so I can’t be having too much am I ?the real challenge would be to see if I’m able to pass on a really good looking deal on a flea market I guess.
