First off I love WM and am in no way looking at replacements. I just happened to catch one of these while flipping through YouTube. I watched a craftsman using what I”m assuming was his “bench” which was no more than a flat board. He did everything with this board, but what was intriguing was the fact that he did everything on the pull stroke instead of push. From flattening to edging, he did it all on the pull stroke, remarkably fast and what appeared to be amazingly square. Sometimes I struggle with simple things like a shooting board and the traditional push method. I haven’t tried making a new board and going “pull” yet. Anyway, I suppose this would be considered “off topic” ?
Yes it is quite amaazing how they have the ability to work on the ground using their feet as a vice. It looks very awkward to plane and must take some getting used too. They really do produce some outstanding work though.
Have you seen the one where they score the wood, it’s their form of staining.
