I’ve got an old chopping board that I want to repurpose and build into a tablet stand. I used a sander to get the majority of the knife marks out and wanted to use my stanley no. 4 (eBay find) to finish the surface before cutting it to size.
There are a few different types of woods glued together and I guess the grains are mixed up one particular darker brown wood seems to be tearing out chunks as I run my plane over it.
Is there any tips for helping tidy this piece up? I’ve attached some pictures as example.

Use a cabinet scraper on it. I just cleaned up such a butcher block table top for someone.
a stanley #80 will sort this out in any direction or a cheaper alternative is a card scraper
I really like the cabinet scraper and card scrapers. I bought one of those fancy Arno burnishers, which is amazing! Much better than the nail set I was using.
