I have been on Ebay again…I found two planes that I thought were reasonable. One was a Stanly 5 1/2 made in England. I was fairly surprised when I won the auction at under $50 US. When it arrived, what I thought was an older plane is obviously quite new with plastic totes. The sole was really close to flat but the blade was a lot more light than I am accustomed to even though it did take a good edge on sharpening. All in all it seems that it will function in the OK to well category. Any info on this plane will be greatly appreciated. The second and the heartbreaking one was an antique Stanly/Baily No. 7 in beautiful condition. I arrived in two pieces…much to my chagrin. Fortunately for me, the seller is a really nice man with whom I had a great conversation. He immediately credited me back with the purchase price and shipping. He asked that I return the plane and he will credit me back with the return shipping. Now this is customer service. Good news is I found a close second and it should be here in a couple of days. Keep your fingers crossed for me that the shipper takes better care of this one.
