well done Steve i bet your dad is very proud of you and walks with pride with his new cane
Thanks guys, it is a fun project. I just got back from giving it to Dad, he is doing better, getting around, walking short distances. He has officially out of the wheel chair and has graduated to the walker. He said next week he should be approved for the cane.
Thanks Greg, he is doing much better, and in good spirits.
I got in a hurry for the finish, I needed to get it wrapped up so I could drop it off today. It is made from White Oak, and I used some General Finishes, Brown Mahogany Gel Stain. Then I topped it with three quick coats of shellac and a wax finish. Tip with the Gel Stain: Make sure you force that stuff into all the crevices, otherwise you will have to go back and re-apply and start darkening the color if you are not carefull.
I didn’t have any urethane handy, and I did not want to wait a couple of days for the coats to dry. It is cold and rainy here so it was easier to just use the shellac.
Great work Steve, glad to hear your Dad doing better. Very beautiful gift.
Great job Steve good to see cane will be useful.
Hope your dad is soon running around 😉
