I thought I would take a break from my newbie questions and share some pictures of a Warranted back saw restoration that I finished yesterday. I don’t have any “before” pictures, but it needed a cleanup of the blade, handle and hardware.
For the blade I used 220 and 400 grit sandpaper and mineral spirits.
The handle had bits of the old finish remaining… so I filed and sanded it, keeping the original shape. A coat of Danish oil followed by clear shellac left it with a vintage look, but brought out the color of the wood.
The hardware took a dip in evaporust, then briefly on the buffer.
I was pleased with the results… about the best $12 back saw you could hope for. Thanks for looking.
Nice job on the saw. This is another slippery slope that many of us enjoy. I have several to re – furbish soon since my bench is finished, have a couple things to add this weekend.
